Founding partner of Jacobsen Daniels Associates (JD)

Darryl Daniels is a founding partner of Jacobsen Daniels Associates (JD), a technical and strategy consultancy headquartered in Ypsilanti that provides planning, operations, and development services to the aviation industry around the country.  In 2001, he launched JD growing the firm to over 200 hundred employees nation-wide. Over his career he has provided these services for local, state, and federal agencies, as well as for private sector clients. Darryl has distinguished himself in the aviation sector where his clients look to his expertise to solve complex challenges through innovate problem solving. He has served on several boards and committees dedicated to fostering the development and advancement of small, minority, and women owned businesses in the aviation industry.

Darryl has been the lead technical specialist on several nationally recognized planning projects, which focused on strategies for economic and land-use development and community outreach and engagement. After the governance change involving Detroit Metro and Willow Run Airports, he led the airport executive staff through the strategic planning process to define a vision and corporate-wide strategic goals.  These goals and the final action plan led to several initiatives including an airport master plans for both Detroit Metro and Willow Run Airports.  His firm has worked on and implemented airport master plans, airside and landside plans at airports in Detroit, Omaha, Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Richmond, Jackson, Baltimore, Cleveland, Memphis, and Kansas City.

Darryl was the lead technical consultant of the Program Criteria Update for the Evans Terminal Redevelopment Complex at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport which opened in 2009.  He worked with the airport and airlines to establish program requirements based on industry standards and airline requests. The $400 million dollar redevelopment project provided for the construction of 25 jet carrier gates and terminal support facilities for seven signatory airlines at Detroit Metro Airport.  In addition, he has successfully worked with airport staff and airline representatives to determine space-programming needs for domestic and international terminal facilities at Baltimore/Washington International, Birmingham International and New Orleans International Airport.  He has completed terminal planning projects for departure gates, VIP rooms, administrative offices, ticket counters, baggage handling requirements and baggage and passenger security screening systems. In addition, he has extensive experience in facility and operational airport planning projects including, consolidated rental car campus planning, vehicle parking, aircraft parking, construction operations, taxi and limo operations, shuttle operations, concessions operations, cargo development, and remote deicing

After Hurricane Katrina, Darryl served as principal-in-charge for the coordination and planning efforts for the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport Hazard Mitigation Plan and Hurricane Preparedness Plan activities. These efforts involved facility assessments, meeting all FEMA requirements, conducting numerous stakeholder meeting and implementing airport staff training.

Darryl has served on a variety of professional, non-profit and economic development boards in Michigan.  He is a licensed architect with degrees in architecture and urban planning from the University of Notre Dame and the University of New Orleans.
